I prefer an external camera because it has better video quality than the internal camera of my PC. Also it lets me move my camera around to show my students things around my home! The link above is the webcam I have been using for both VIPKID and a photobooth business I have.

You will want good lighting! I use one tall light and the small light in my regular classroom. I keep the extra light in the travel case to take with me when I teach on the go.
